Net income

The profit left after every cost, including interest and taxes. It's the bottom line of the income statement, and it can include one-off gains and losses.

Simple example

A company has $100 of revenue, $80 of operating costs, $5 of interest and $3 of taxes. Its net income is $100 − $80 − $5 − $3 = $12.
