Year-over-year growth (YoY)

The change in a figure compared with the same period a year earlier, as a percentage. Comparing a quarter with the same quarter last year avoids seasonal swings.

Simple example

Revenue was $80 in the third quarter last year and $100 in the third quarter this year. Year-over-year growth is ($100 − $80) ÷ $80 = 25%.

$80Q3 last year$100Q3 this year+25%(100 − 80) ÷ 80
