Segments

The business lines or regions a company reports separately, the way its own management tracks them. They show which parts of the business drive revenue and profit.

Simple example

A company has $100 of revenue: $70 from hardware and $30 from software. Software is the smaller segment, but it earns $15 of the company's $20 of operating profit.
